The importance of funding education in Louisiana
Gas costs under $2.00 per gallon; oil is trading under $45.00 per barrel.
Good news for us, bad news for the State.
Our current budget is based on $85.00 per barrel oil, resulting in a loss to the General Fund of $600 million.
Where is the biggest portion of that loss to be recovered?
You guessed it, higher education, to the tune of $300 million.
This, after having cut higher education by $700 million over the past 8 years.
Our State is on the cusp of benefiting from $90 billion in industrial expansion along the I-10 corridor.
In order to attract this investment, and maintain the facilities as planned, we must have an educated workforce. Closing trade schools and colleges may kill the proverbial goose laying the golden eggs.
Send me to Baton Rouge and I will fight to fund reasonable higher education programs that will permit our children to stay in Louisiana, to start their families and raise our grandchildren.
